The flagship phone will get a 200MP camera and will be able to shoot full 8K video
Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of its latest image sensor ‘ISOCELL HP2’. In which a resolution of 200 megapixels has been given. This new camera module from Samsung has already entered the mass production stage and will most likely debut with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Galaxy S23 Ultra will be launched on 1 February.
The company has not made improvements only in the resolution. According to Samsung, premium smartphones will get better pixel technology in the lens for better mobile image quality. The ISOCELL HP2 features 200 million 0.6-micrometer pixels in a 1/1.3-inch optical format.
This sensor size is commonly used in 108-megapixel smartphone cameras. This will allow for higher resolution in high-end smartphones without the big camera bump.
New Tetra2pixel Technology
The sensor features Samsung’s advanced pixel-binning technology Tetra2pixel, which simulates multiple pixel sizes to adapt to different lighting levels. In low light environments, the sensor can bind 4 to 16 neighboring pixels to convert to a 1.2-μm 50-megapixel and 2.4-μm 12.5-megapixel image sensor.
And for the full 8K video, the sensor switches to 1.2-micron 50-megapixel mode to capture more scenes.
Additionally, the ISOCELL HP2 is equipped with Samsung’s Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) technology. Samsung claims that the capacity of Pixel increases by more than 33%. This reduces overexposure in bright light conditions and enhances color reproduction.
The sensor also gets a technology called Super QPD, which offers better auto-focusing in low-light settings and a DSG feature for enhanced HDR performance in 50-megapixel mode.
